Children's 1 Day Workshop :: April '07

Two half day workshops where girls transform themselves into a magical character from their imagination with mixed media and costume making.

Facilitators ::
Lissa Maloney. Artist, Designer, Mother. I love to inspire and help people to create art for the sheer fun of it.
Madonna Bain. Clothing Designer, Mother. I love to make beautiful clothes with recycled materials that mean something special to the wearer.

Theme :: All that glitters & sparkles.  We have a workshop area transformed into a fairy wonderland, with flowers and decorations. We will have work benches, paints and mixed media materials.

What we will do :: Day One, we will use our imagination to create a magical creature in mixed media on canvas. Day Two, we will each create the costume we imagined, with fabric, wire wings and body paint, and dress up in our costumes. There will be beautiful music throughout the days.

Afternoon tea will be provided :: Simple yummy snacks. If your child has any special dietary requirements let me know.  Bring own lunch and drink bottle. Please don’t include any nut or seed
products in your child’s lunch, as we have one girl who has a nut allergy.

What to bring :: 1. Wear bike pants or something for trying costumes on amoungst other people. (Thus why this workshop is only girls!) 2. Packed lunch and drink bottle. 3. Wear clothes that don’t matter if they get dirty/paint, or bring big old shirt to wear while painting.

Special memories :) :: Parts of the day are filmed. The dvd will be available later. Bring your camera when you come to pick them up, I’m sure there will be some great memories that they will want you to keep!

Cost :: $33 for both half days. (incl. material costs and afternoon tea) per child.
It is important to me that girls can come and have a great day, and that material costs are met, so I’ve kept everything to a minimal cost.

Be involved ::
If you would like to be involved, there are many ways... Each job will take an hour or two of your time and will be worth your while when you see the joy on their face.
> cutting fabric and lace for skirts.
> helping make the wire frames for wings and headpieces.
> helping to set up workshop area on morning.
> sewing skirts and helping children with applique on the day.
> cleaning up after the day.
> donating fabric scraps that girls would love to use in their costumes. If anyone has special, beautiful, small or large, scraps waiting for a good use, here it is!

Date :: Next Workshop Days :: Two consecutive Saturdays August 25th and September 1st. 10am - 1pm.

Registration ::
Please register with me if you know someone who would love to come. Places are limited to 10 children, so be quick! :)
